Sevastopol's parade
Several EU Leaders gave a piece of their mind by condemning Putin's actions in Sevastopol, related to the May 9th celebrations. They said, it was an inappropriate demonstration of military prowess that lead to further destabilization. It sounds utterly absurd to anyone, who knows Russian history and tradition! For many years we have staged a parade on this momentous day - the day we achieved Victory in World War II. It has never been an act of intimidation or anything of the like. It was and is a tribute to our memory! It is a celebration of one of the greatest victories of all time by any Nation. The day when all who survived in that terrible war, come together to never let us forget those dark days... This is the day when all - people of all generations, come to thank them for this Victory. Nothing more than that! As far as I know, some of the European Union leaders are not so young. They know what this day really means. They should know that it's a tradition - it did not start today or yesterday. This parade took place in 1965 and 1985 and so on ... it has gone on longer than I can remember myself! On May 9th we usually have this parade in just about every town in Russia. Why is it that Sevastopol can not have it? By condemning of the May 9th celebration, especially these days, when we have evidence of the return of fascism - such outrage sounds in the very least bizarre. In fact it is the silence instead of condemning fascist violence that sounds even more bizarre. We did not hear a single word of protest, when neo-Nazis staged a parade in Kiev on 01/01/2014. We did not hear any word against neo-Nazi actions in Lvov. But we read that German Chancellor Angela Merkel called Sevastolol's parade "inappropriate action". I think, there is something amiss in this situation.
